The development of diabetes is quickly becoming a major health issue. A study in the Journal of Periodontolgy found that poorly controlled type-2 diabetic patients are more likely to develop gum disease than well controlled diabetics are.

Periodontal (gum) disease is considered the sixth complication of diabetes. Gum disease starts out like an infection, and diabetics are more susceptible to contract infections; therefore, if you have diabetes, you are more likely to have gum disease.

photoDr. Peter Brusco attended the prestigious Sophie B. Davis School of Biomedical Education at The City College of New York for his undergraduate program. He then graduated from The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine In 1980. A product of the Accelerated Program (8 year program completed in 6 years), he completed his General Practice Residency at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ in 1981.
